The Act of Babywearing
It may feel like wearing a baby is akin to juggling monkeys. Don’t worry. It will become like second nature in no time. Like most parenting practices, it takes time to learn. Breastfeeding is totally natural and instinctual… but it takes practice to get the hang of it.
Start testing your baby carrier in your home. Don’t try to use it for the first time when you are in the store or at the doctor’s office. It will probably take a few tries before it feels comfortable, so start out in a place where you feel comfortable.
Once you have your baby in the carrier, start moving! It’s just like when you hold your baby in your arms: rock, walk, dance. Do what makes your baby happy. If you feel like the baby isn’t secure, he/she probably isn’t. A sling that is securely attached will feel comfortable and safe. Also, always make sure that your baby is positioned properly. Improper positioning can cause your baby to have problems breathing. Please check the links section for a great article on correct positioning.
